Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman celebrates Omani Women's Day on October 17th, commemorating the historic journey and ongoing contributions of women to national development. This year's celebration centres on the slogan “She is Oman,” highlighting female leadership and competence across vital sectors in alignment with Oman Vision 2040.
Royal Support & Political Empowerment
Omani women continue to receive strong backing under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik, who regards women as vital partners in building the nation's future.
In a major national milestone underlining this commitment, His Majesty directed the allocation of an additional seat for Omani women in the Shura Council representing each governorate—bringing the total to eleven dedicated seats alongside general competitive seats. This royal directive strengthens the principle of consultation (Shura) and enhances women's participation in shaping public policy and national legislation.
Community Leadership & Regional Initiatives
Throughout 2026, Her Highness the Honourable Lady Sayyida Ahad bint Abdullah bin Hamad Al Busaidi conducted significant field visits to governorates across the Sultanate, including engagements with the Omani Women’s Associations in Khasab and Salalah. These visits highlighted community-driven projects, traditional handicrafts, and the essential role of local associations in empowering women economically and preserving cultural heritage.
Pioneering Key Economic Sectors
Omani women are expanding their leadership beyond traditional roles, driving transformation in critical industries:
• Energy Sector: Active involvement spanning oil, gas, electricity, renewable energy, and clean hydrogen initiatives, directly supporting economic diversification.
• Environmental Sector: Leading contributions in biodiversity conservation, natural resource protection, and environmental research to build a sustainable future.
• Minerals Sector: Growing participation in exploration, mining, and value-added manufacturing, unlocking the potential of Oman's national mineral wealth.
As the nation celebrates this occasion, Omani women remain a foundational pillar of the ongoing renaissance, exemplifying resilience, dedication, and leadership in realising the nation's developmental goals.
