Morgantown, W.Va.-based WVU Health System has appointed Matthew Schnur, PharmD, as president and CEO of Butler Memorial Hospital and Clarion Hospital in Pennsylvania.
Mr. Schnur brings more than a decade of healthcare leadership experience to the role, according to an Oct. 7 health system news release. He previously served as president of both hospitals within Independence Health System and held leadership roles including director of pharmacy and vice president of ancillary services.
The appointment follows WVU Medicine’s Oct. 1 acquisition of five Pennsylvania hospitals from Greensburg-based Independence Health System. The hospitals began operating under the WVU Medicine brand immediately following the acquisition.
The hospitals’ executive leadership team also includes Michael Fiorina, DO, as chief medical officer and Mindy Dunkerley, BSN, RN, as vice president of quality and regulatory affairs. Dr. Fiorina previously served as chief medical officer for Independence Health System, while Ms. Dunkerley served as its chief quality officer.
David Rottinghaus, MD, will continue as president of the affiliated medical groups. Thomas Albanesi will serve as interim CFO while the system searches for a permanent CFO.
WVU Medicine appointed Brian Fritz to serve as president and CEO of the three other recently acquired Pennsylvania hospitals: Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg, Latrobe Hospital and Frick Hospital in Mount Pleasant.
