Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has received the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship flag for the 2027 general elections as the party intensifies efforts to mobilise support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election.
Yusuf received the flag on Saturday from the APC National Chairman during the party’s 2027 presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna State.
The event was attended by Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC governors and other prominent party leaders.
The presentation formally signalled the party’s endorsement of Yusuf as its governorship candidate in Kano State ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
According to a statement issued by Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Director-General of Media and Publicity at the Kano State Government House, the event underscored Kano’s strategic importance to the APC’s nationwide mobilisation efforts.
The rally attracted party stakeholders, elected officials, supporters and other political leaders from across the country, with Kano’s delegation making a notable appearance.

With its large voting population and political influence in Northern Nigeria, Kano is expected to play a significant role in the APC’s efforts to secure victory in the 2027 presidential and governorship elections.
In his remarks at the event, Tinubu commended governors across the country for the developmental strides recorded in their respective states, acknowledging their contributions to governance and the implementation of development initiatives.
Ahead of the campaign flag-off, Governor Yusuf had urged members of the Kano State Presidential and Gubernatorial Campaign Council to intensify grassroots mobilisation to ensure that Kano records the highest number of votes for Tinubu in the forthcoming presidential election.
He urged campaign officials to strengthen engagement with communities, political stakeholders and voters across the state to achieve the target.
The governor also advised members of the campaign council to focus on communicating the achievements and programmes of APC administrations rather than engaging in personal attacks against political opponents.
He stressed the need for discipline, unity and constructive political engagement as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.
Yusuf’s participation in the Kaduna rally follows his defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the APC, a move that has significantly reshaped Kano’s political landscape ahead of the next general elections.
The campaign flag-off is expected to provide a platform for APC leaders to consolidate party structures, strengthen coordination among stakeholders and mobilise supporters nationwide.
Yusuf’s receipt of the governorship flag, alongside Kano’s participation in the presidential campaign launch, further highlights the state’s importance to the APC’s electoral strategy as political activities gather momentum ahead of 2027.
