The Palli Kalvi Padhukaapu Iyakkam has urged the Coimbatore district administration to take steps to ensure that students of four government schools have access to playgrounds.
In a representation, the organisation highlighted issues affecting playground access at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Ondipudur, the Government Higher Secondary School in Vilankurichi, the Government Higher Secondary School in Kavundampalayam and the Government High School in Gandhi Nagar.
At the Ondipudur school, a case concerning the playground involving the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department is pending in court. The playground at the Vilankurichi school is located on land earmarked for public purposes in a Corporation residential area.
For the Kavundampalayam school, the District Collector has instructed the Department of Animal Husbandry to provide mandhai poramboke land. The Gandhi Nagar Government High School has sought permission to use an adjoining Corporation-owned plot.
The organisation has urged the district administration to coordinate with the departments concerned and resolve the issues to ensure that students can use the playgrounds for sports and physical activities.
