B.C. teacher suspended over nudes and lewd posts on Reddit

A Richmond teacher has been suspended for two weeks after students from his high school found nude photographs and sexualized posts he had shared on a public social media platform.

Early in the 2023-24 school year, two students found Jimmy Ho’s Reddit account through an internet search. One of the first links showed a photo of Ho at the school with links to his personal and public Reddit accounts. The students recognized him as a teacher at their school.

On his Reddit profile were posts and comments Ho had made on various sub-communities over time, including “nude photographs of Ho, photographs of Ho engaged in sexual acts and posts of a sexual nature,” according to a consent resolution agreement posted online Tuesday by the B.C. Commissioner for Teacher Regulation.

“The profile page also contained photographs of Ho, clothed, taken in connection with school activities, including one taken at the school,” it said.

The students said they were “ shocked” and reported the inappropriate posts to other teachers. News of Ho’s Reddit account quickly spread through the school community.

Ho has been on leave since September 2023, days after the account was revealed.

In the agreement, Ho admits to “conduct unbecoming” and agrees to a two-week suspension of his teaching certificate beginning Oct. 25.

The commissioner determined that the suspension was an appropriate consequence because, “by having sexual images of himself available on a public website, where he was identified as a teacher, Ho failed to maintain the integrity, credibility and reputation of the teaching profession.”
