Guwahati, Oct 22: Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju has warned Delhi-based content creator Amir Shokeen of strict legal action over alleged racial harassment and derogatory remarks against a young man from Tripura in a video that went viral on social media.
Condemning the incident on X, Rijiju said the Delhi Police and Tripura Police would work together to ensure action against the accused.
“This evil man will be punished. There was a delay in lodging the official complaint but Delhi Police and Tripura Police will teach him a hard lesson. People who tolerate such wicked behavior in the society are also responsible for the spread of hatred,” Rijiju posted.

The controversy erupted after a video surfaced online showing Shokeen allegedly making derogatory and racially charged remarks against a youth belonging to Tripura’s indigenous Tiprasa community. The video triggered widespread outrage, with citizens and political leaders demanding action against racial discrimination targeting people from the Northeast.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has directed the state’s Director General of Police to coordinate with Delhi Police officials and initiate necessary proceedings.

Political leaders across party lines, including Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury and Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, have also condemned the incident and called for firm action against racial abuse.
Amid mounting criticism, a formal complaint was lodged with Tripura Police accusing Shokeen of racial harassment, cyberbullying and insulting indigenous communities.
Shokeen subsequently released a video apologising to the people of Tripura. He claimed the viral clip was “scripted” and that the youth featured in it was an acquaintance.
“I had no intention of saying anything bad about anyone. If anyone felt bad, I apologise from the bottom of my heart… My brothers from Tripura, I apologise to all of you with folded hands. Brotherhood is top priority,” he said.
However, the apology has not ended the matter. Authorities are pursuing coordination between Delhi Police and Tripura Police over the allegations, with legal proceedings reported to be underway.
