The Gombe State Government says 74 cholera patients have been treated and discharged following an outbreak in Kedo village, Billiri Local Government Area.
The state’s Commissioner for Health, Adamu Danladi, stated this at a news conference in Gombe on Wednesday.
Two persons earlier died from the outbreak on October 4.
Mr Danladi said the government deployed a Rapid Response Team to support local health officials in investigating the outbreak and treating suspected cases.
According to him, affected persons received free treatment at the Primary Health Care facility in Sheila.
“So far, 74 persons have been treated and discharged, and nobody is currently on admission,” he said.
Mr Danladi said the state had activated an Incident Management System at the Gombe State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC).
He said the system was responsible for strengthening surveillance and coordinating an effective response to contain the outbreak.
The commissioner urged residents to maintain proper food, personal and environmental hygiene to prevent further infections.
He also advised anyone experiencing suspected cholera symptoms to report immediately to the nearest health facility for free treatment.
Mr Danladi assured residents that the government was taking necessary measures to protect the population against cholera and other disease outbreaks.
