The committees of the BNP in seven unions and nine municipal wards of Ishwardi upazila in Pabna have been announced at a programme organised by leaders and activists loyal to Zakaria Pintu, former joint secretary of Pabna District BNP and former general secretary of Ishwardi Municipal BNP.
The names of all 16 committees were formally announced at the Ishwardi Press Club auditorium around 5:00pm on Monday.
Upazila BNP Convener Jahangir Alam announced the full committees of the seven unions. He first announced the 51-member Pakshi Union BNP committee, with Md Moniruzzaman Tutul Sardar as president and Abdus Salam Runju as general secretary.
The 51-member Sara Union BNP committee has Md Akkas Ali as president and Md Firoz Iftekhar Pappa as general secretary. The 51-member Muladuli Union committee is headed by Md Jahangir Hossain Khan as president, with Abdus Sattar Sardar as general secretary.
The 51-member Lakkhikunda Union committee has Md Mojibor Rahman as president and Md Asadul Biswas as general secretary. The Sahapur Union committee is headed by Md Abu Taleb Fakir as president, with Md Sharifuzzaman Babu as general secretary.
The 51-member Solimpur Union committee has Md Anwar Hossain Badsha as president and Md Alamgir Hossain Alam as general secretary. Dashuria Union BNP has Md Mojibor Rahman Member as president and Md Shaheen Islam as general secretary.
Ishwardi Municipal BNP Convener Islam Hossain Jewel announced the full committees of the municipality's nine wards.
The 91-member Ward No. 1 committee has Md Abdul Aziz as president and AKM Fazlur Rahman Sohel as general secretary. The 82-member Ward No. 2 committee is headed by Md Monirul Islam Sabu as president, with Akhtar Hossain Nifa as general secretary.
The 61-member Ward No. 3 committee has Md Azizul Sardar as president and Md Tuzam Ali as general secretary. The 81-member Ward No. 4 committee is headed by Md Alamgir Hossain as president, with Md Salauddin as general secretary.
The 81-member Ward No. 5 committee has Md Mahidul Islam Bablu as president and Akhtaruzzaman Kabu as general secretary. The 51-member Ward No. 6 committee is headed by Md Habibur Rahman Jaglu as president, with Md Jahangir Alam Lalon as general secretary.
The 81-member Ward No. 7 committee has Md Ainul Haque as president and Rajesh Kumar Saraf as general secretary. The 51-member Ward No. 8 committee is headed by Wahid Murad as president, with Robiul Islam as general secretary.
The 61-member Ward No. 9 committee has Md Rezaul Karim as president and Md Zahidul Islam as general secretary.
Before the announcements, Upazila BNP Member Secretary Sahab Uddin Sentu and Municipal BNP Member Secretary Anwar Hossain Jony delivered brief speeches. A large number of leaders and activists of the BNP, Juba Dal, Chhatra Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal and Mohila Dal attended the programme.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the Ishwardi Upazila BNP convening committee, comprising leaders and activists loyal to Pabna District BNP Convener Habibur Rahman Habib, was held at Habib's residence in Sahapur on October 3. Habibur Rahman Habib attended the meeting as the chief guest, while Upazila BNP Convener Ziaul Islam Santu Sardar chaired it.
The meeting announced a decision to dissolve all union and ward committees in the upazila and form new ones promptly to make the organisation more disciplined and dynamic. However, by October 11, the group had announced only the Ward No. 5 committee of the municipality. The 15-member committee has Md Shahidul Islam Atal as president and Anwar Hossain Guddu as general secretary.
When contacted, Mahbubur Rahman Palash, convener of the Municipal BNP faction loyal to Habibur Rahman Habib, said the process of forming union and municipal ward committees with capable leaders and activists was underway to strengthen, discipline and revitalise the party.
