‘I just like poking fun at humans and the weird things we’ve decided to do’: Taika Waititi on Klara And The Sun
Director Taika Waititi, known for his irreverent storytelling and vibrant use of colour, says he wanted to bring his distinctive visual style to his adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s bestselling novel, Klara and the Sun. The Oscar-winning filmmaker, whose credits include the cult hit Hunt for the Wilderpeople and Marvel blockbusters Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder, also brings his trademark “fish-out-of-water” humour to the screenplay.Set in a dystopian future, the film stars Jenna Ortega as Klara, a lovable Artificial Friend (AF) designed to be the perfect companion. When Klara enters the lives of Chrissie and her sickly daughter, Josie, played by Amy Adams and Mia Tharia, she finds herself in a family struggling with a strained relationship. Her innocent optimism may be just what they need to begin healing.
