A devastating flash flood has swept through Nepal's Gorkha district along the Budhi Gandaki River, destroying homes, bridges, and infrastructure just before the Dashain festival. Authorities report five people missing, about 100 cattle missing, and more than 650 people affected. At least two villages in Chumanubri rural municipality were reportedly wiped out.
More than 700 security personnel and four Nepali Army helicopters have been deployed for search-and-rescue operations. Emergency teams have rescued 95 people, including nine foreign nationals.
The cause remains unconfirmed, with a possible landslide dam outburst or glacier-related event under investigation. The disaster has heightened concerns among communities still recovering from devastating August floods along the Nepal–Tibet border.
