The managing director of the Kano State Roads Traffic Agency (KAROTA), Faisal Mahmud-Kabir, has stripped two officers of their portfolios over alleged misconduct.
Mr Mahmud-Kabir also approved their immediate redeployment from the Kofar Nassarawa towers unit back to the headquarters.
This is contained in a statement by the agency’s spokesman, Abubakar Ibrahim-Sharada, on Friday in Kano.
The approval is in an official posting letter released Thursday and signed by the agency’s director of administration and general services, Mahmud Haido.
In the letter, Mr Haido explained that the redeployment was prompted by a series of complaints and allegations of bribery, corruption and indiscriminate extortion allegedly levelled against the affected personnel.
According to the director, the agency has already issued query letters to the affected officers as a preliminary step before taking disciplinary measures under the Civil Service Rules (revised 2004).
He restated the agency’s commitment to fighting all forms of corruption in its operations, noting that it would not spare any staff involved in any heinous act.
Mr Haido warned all personnel to discharge their duties with honesty and a deep sense of responsibility and responsiveness.
He maintained that the philosophy behind the agency’s establishment was positive public service, not oppression.
