Olympiacos Piraeus secured a 1-0 victory over Sparta Prague on Thursday in the third round of the UEFA Europa League league phase, with the decisive goal officially credited as an own goal following UEFA’s subsequent ruling.
The goal came in the 78th minute, when a cross from Marcus Holmgren Pedersen resulted in the ball entering the net, with the final touch officially attributed to a Sparta Prague player rather than Olympiacos’ Armando González.
Olympiacos dominated possession and attacking pressure at Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium, finishing with 59% possession, 13 shots and 14 corner kicks. Sparta Prague managed 11 shots but failed to register a shot on target. The visitors also received four yellow cards, compared with one for the Greek side.
The win extended Olympiacos’ strong start to the league phase, following victories over Jagiellonia Białystok and Marseille in their opening two matches.
Following Thursday’s 1-0 win over Sparta Prague, Olympiacos have nine points from three matches in the 2026-27 UEFA Europa League league phase, having won all three games. They have scored four goals and conceded one across those fixtures.
