Political Strategist Maimisa Ciwele Chishange has strongly condemned the beating of former Patriotic Front Secretary General Hon. Davis Mwila, stating that while the act is condemnable, it serves as a reminder that you reap what you sow.
Mr. Chishange said political violence must be condemned in all its forms, regardless of who the victim is, but noted that the current political intolerance is a result of seeds planted in the past.
“As much as I condemn the beating of Hon. Davis Mwila, the former Patriotic Front SG, I want to remind Zambians that you reap what you sow. What we are seeing today did not start today,” Mr. Chishange said.
He stated that the incident should serve as a stark reminder to all political players that power is not permanent.
“This should serve as a stark reminder to everyone that power is not permanent. Today you may be in power, tomorrow you will be out of power. What has happened to Hon. Davis Mwila can happen to anyone as long as cadres are left on the loose. If we allow cadre violence today, the same violence will be used against us tomorrow,” he said.
Mr. Chishange said Zambia must break the cycle of political revenge and cadrelism, where cadres are used to harass opponents, only for the same to happen when power changes hands.
“We must end this cycle. An eye for an eye will make Zambia blind. We need to end cadrelism completely. We need politics of ideas, not politics of beating people,” he said.
He called on law enforcement agencies to ensure that whoever is behind the beating of Hon. Mwila is brought to book and that all Zambians, including those in the opposition, are protected.
“Whoever is behind the beating of Hon. Davis Mwila must be brought to book. The law must protect everyone. Protect Hon. Mwila today, so that tomorrow when you are out of power, someone will protect you. That is how democracy grows,” Mr. Chishange said.
He urged Zambians to learn from the incident and promote peace, tolerance, and maturity in politics.
