Injective CEO Eric Chen recently met with officials from the White House, the SEC, and the CFTC. The agenda was advancing regulated onchain finance in the United States.
The meetings took place in October 2026, with Chen joined by other Injective leadership. The company has not disclosed specific outcomes.
What Injective brought to the table
The discussions centered on two linked themes. The first was regulated onchain finance. The second was the tokenization of real-world assets, known in the industry as RWAs.
Injective arrived with a credential most crypto projects lack. In August 2026, the SEC registered it as a transfer agent.
Transfer agents are the unglamorous record-keepers of traditional finance. They maintain the official books showing who owns which securities. With that status, Injective can keep those ownership records for tokenized securities, and that is the plumbing institutional players need before they move real money onchain.
The company also pointed to activity on its own network. Injective reports over $1 billion in tokenized RWA value onchain. It says cumulative RWA perpetual volume has passed $5.3 billion, spread across asset classes that include equities and commodities.
A year of regulatory groundwork
In 2025, the company put forward a proposal calling for a time-based exemption for decentralized finance projects. The idea was to give early-stage DeFi protocols a window to develop before facing the full weight of securities rules.
In September 2026, the SEC introduced its Innovation Exemption. That move signaled a regulator increasingly willing to make room for new financial technology.
Injective has also gained ground on the derivatives side. INJ futures were listed on CFTC-regulated US markets in late 2026. That puts the token in a small group of digital assets that support regulated derivatives trading in the country.
The company has also used its own events to reach lawmakers. The Injective Summit hosted discussions with bipartisan members of Congress in earlier sessions.
Put together, the timeline reads like a deliberate campaign. There is a policy proposal in 2025, then transfer agent registration in August 2026, and regulated futures and face time with the White House, SEC, and CFTC later the same year.
What this means for tokenization and DeFi
Injective has not announced any new approvals from these meetings. For investors and traders, a regulated framework could lower the perceived risk of using DeFi markets. That matters most to institutions, which tend to avoid anything without clear legal footing.
There are real risks to weigh. Regulatory momentum can stall or reverse, and no meeting guarantees a favorable rule. The on-chain figures Injective cites, including the over $1 billion in tokenized RWA value and more than $5.3 billion in cumulative perp volume, are company-reported numbers.
The SEC’s Innovation Exemption marks a shift in tone. Exactly which projects qualify, and on what terms, will decide whether it changes how DeFi operates in practice.
