ONGWEDIVA– The NamPower Foundation has handed over a three-classroom block and storeroom to Otshipya Combined School in the Etayi Constituency of the Omusati Region, helping address overcrowding and improve the learning environment at the school.
The project, together with school stationery previously donated to the school, is valued at more than N$800 000.
Speaking at the handover ceremony last week, NamPower Foundation Head Otilie Mujoro said the project demonstrates the Foundation’s commitment to investing in education and improving learning conditions for learners in rural communities.
Mujoro said the Foundation became aware of the challenges faced by Otshipya Combined School, particularly overcrowded classrooms and limited infrastructure, and recognised the need to contribute towards addressing the situation.
“When we first learned about the challenges the school was facing, especially the overcrowded learning spaces and limited infrastructure, we knew we could not remain on the sidelines because these conditions affect more than comfort; they influence concentration, participation, teaching and the overall quality of learning,” she said.
Mujoro said that every learner has the right to learn in a safe, comfortable and conducive environment.
“These classrooms represent far more than bricks and mortar. They are an investment in possibility – spaces for lessons to be taught, questions to be asked, talents to be discovered and knowledge to be cultivated,” she said.
She said that improving school infrastructure creates conditions for teachers to teach effectively while enabling learners to focus, participate and thrive.
Mujoro urged teachers to use the new facilities to nurture disciplined, curious and responsible learners, while calling on parents and guardians to continue supporting their children and safeguarding the infrastructure.
“Never allow your present circumstances to limit your vision of what you can achieve. Education opens doors, but it also requires commitment, discipline and perseverance,” she said.
Acting Inspector of Education in the Etayi Circuit, Linus Mingeli, welcomed the donation, stating that investment in education was important for creating quality learning facilities for both learners and teachers.
“To receive such a generous donation after hearing our cries, we appreciate NamPower because the government alone cannot build classrooms for each and every school in a year. This donation adds to the government’s infrastructure when it comes to numbers,” he said.
Mingeli thanked NamPower for the contribution and called on other stakeholders to support government efforts to improve education infrastructure.
