This is the world we live in: there's always one asshole. There's always one person who's holding the world back from peace or equality or common human decency and universal respect. On Friday, that one asshole existed at the Sex Pistols gig, featuring Frank Carter, at Denver, CO's Ogden Theatre, who had a problem with a women-centric mosh pit.
Before introducing the song "No Feelings," vocalist Frank Carter tried to open the pit up to only women. "Ladies if you've ever wanted to mosh or dance in a safe environment without getting an elbow to the fucking face or," he started off before being interrupted by someone in the crowd.
Carter then tells hims to shut the fuck up and clarifies that "every time there is always a man that tells me that 'They could do this all the fucking time.' They can't! They fucking can't. Do you know why? Because they walk in the mosh pit and they get fucking elbowed to the head by a fucking idiot."
Based on circulating videos, Carter goes back and forth with the loser in the crowd. "It's not your lived experience so just shut the fuck up," Carter added. "How is it so difficult for you to see space made for women at a Sex Pistols gig? How the fuck —" After a few minutes, Carter gets so fed up that he asks security to kick him out. Hell yeah!
After the story spread online, on Saturday (Oct. 10), Carter posted Instagram Stories addressing the incident and a picture of a message from the concertgoer's father. Text from the stories reads as follows:
If you are a man who gets offended by a band making room for a female only moshpit then you are PART OF THE PROBLEM. Stay home, read a book by Bell Hooks, come back when kindness, compassion and empathy have landed with you. Incels, homophobes, misogynists, racists, fascists not welcome
Also this isn't up for debate. I don't care for your pedantry. If it isn't your lived
experience, don't fucking speak on it. If you are offended by being told something isn't for you then imagine how it feels to be a woman in the current climateAnd finally...When I say a Ladies only moshpit pit, I of course mean a trans inclusionary space. The space is for people who don't usually feel safe.... To dance and have fun without the worry of physical, sexual or psychological violence being used against them while they are vulnerable
DO NOT LET THEM DIVIDE US
He then posted the message from the concertgoer's parent that reads:
Frank - let me apologize that was my idiotic son who decided to make a stand last night in Denver about the womens mosh pit. Wasnt how he was raised, wasnt what he was taught. His sisters learning of his stand are very upset w him as am I. Unfortunately this is what has happened in our country and the misinformation and poison that has been spewed into young and old people has infected and affected our country. Ty for doing that- keep it up and ty for a great show. I was watching from the balcony and didn't even know it was him until after the show. Keep rocking and making moments like that. I watched the women during their time and saw all of them having so much fun and i wonder years from now what they will do from your encouragement to try something they may have always wanted to but didnt feel safe trying to do. All small acts are important! Keep it up and best to ya n the band. Cheers!
