ABLE – Animal Blue Light Emergency, a registered charity based in Moncarapacho, East Algarve, is producing a 2027 wall calendar featuring work by local artists.
The theme focuses on the cats, dogs and other animals that the charity helps when they face sudden injury, illness, abandonment or trauma, covering initial emergency veterinary costs where the cost of treatment is the barrier.
To date, ABLE has responded to 77 emergency requests, 42 for cats and 35 for dogs, funding treatment directly for the majority of them. Fifty-two of those animals survived, many of whom would not be here without fast veterinary care. For the 25 who could not be saved, ABLE made sure they were seen by a vet and were not left suffering. ABLE is funded entirely by kind donations and by purchases at its ViNTAGE shop.
Each month of the calendar will showcase a different piece of art, with the artist’s name and contact details clearly credited. The calendars will be sold through ViNTAGE, the charity’s shop at Avenida Maria Lizarda Palermo No 15, Moncarapacho. All profits will go directly towards emergency veterinary costs for animals in crisis.
“We wanted to create something beautiful that also makes a real difference,” said Lisa Jones, co-founder of ABLE. “The artists have been incredibly generous and we are thrilled that their work will help raise both money and awareness for the animals we help. Thank you also to the local businesses who have kindly sponsored the production costs.”
Some of the artworks may also be sold or auctioned after the calendar is launched, with all proceeds going to ABLE.
Bekki Oliver, who led the calendar project, said: “Instead of giving Christmas cards and gifts this year, why not gift a calendar and help make a difference to an animal in crisis?”
The 2027 calendar will be available from early December, priced at €10. Anyone interested in purchasing a copy, stocking them in a business or learning more about ABLE’s work can contact the charity by email at [email protected], by phone on +351 961 972 245 or via Facebook.
The calendar arrives as ABLE prepares to celebrate its first anniversary in December. What began as a small idea became a registered charity and then a shop, ViNTAGE, run entirely by volunteers. Thanks to everyone who has given their time, made a donation or shopped at ViNTAGE, ABLE has been there when animals needed help most.
