It said that transcripts of exchanges using the Sky ECC encrypted communications system allegedly show close links between Darko Saric’s drug trafficking group and someone whose nickname has been alleged to be then-President Aleksandar Vucic.
Radar said that messages from 2020 discussed an alleged agreement under which Saric would receive a prison sentence of no more than 10 years, be acquitted of money-laundering charges and recover some confiscated property. A middleman claimed in an email that the terms had been agreed with senior figures in the judiciary and the Security Intelligence Agency (BIA). The messages also refer to promises of a presidential pardon if the outcome fell short of expectations.
Radar identifies the aliases "Oskar" and "Cvarak" as Vucic, based on earlier correspondence and the president's authority to grant pardons. The weekly also reported claims that Saric helped finance the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).
Radar says prosecutors have complained that police have withheld Sky messages needed for their investigations.
The SKY ECC communications are encrypted messages exchanged through a communications platform widely used by organized crime groups, which European law enforcement agencies accessed after cracking the system in 2020 and have since used as evidence in criminal investigations.
