Chicken prices have surged in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan, with retailers charging Rs. 630 to Rs. 700 per kilogram in the provincial capital.
Chicken sold for Rs. 430 per kilogram at the start of the week, but daily increases have pushed prices up sharply.
The rising costs have put further pressure on households already struggling to afford basic necessities, including flour. Consumers also complain that some shopkeepers charge slightly lower prices but provide less than the stated weight.
Shopkeepers blame the surge on suspended supplies from Sindh and Punjab, along with successive diesel price hikes that have increased truck freight charges. They say local poultry farms also face high feed costs, preventing them from selling chicken at lower rates.
Traders say rising poultry feed prices and other farming expenses have increased production costs, adding to the upward pressure on chicken prices. Consumers across Balochistan continue to face higher costs as chicken prices climb.
