A labourer admitted vandalising Masjid Al-Aziz Al-Hadi in Tumpat by smashing a glass panel and splashing foul-smelling liquid on its carpet.
PETALING JAYA: A labourer has pleaded guilty in the Pasir Mas Magistrates’ Court to two charges linked to the vandalism of a mosque in Tumpat, Kelantan, on Oct 5.
Manjesh Singh Shukdev Singh, 38, entered his pleas before magistrate Syed Farid Syed Ali today after the charges were read out, Harian Metro reported.
The first charge alleges that he smashed a glass panel at Masjid Al-Aziz Al-Hadi in Kota SPP Warisan and splashed a foul-smelling liquid on its carpet, knowing that Muslims would regard the act as an insult to Islam.
The charge was framed under Section 295 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum two-year jail term, a fine, or both.
The second charge alleges that he trespassed into the mosque with the intention of committing an offence. It was brought under Section 448 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum three-year jail term, a fine of up to RM5,000, or both.
Both offences were allegedly committed at 4.35am on Oct 5.
Deputy public prosecutor Nik Zharifah Insyirah Zahari led the prosecution, while Noor Suhadah Ripim of the National Legal Aid Foundation represented Manjesh.
The court granted him bail of RM8,000 and fixed Nov 23 for sentencing.
Manjesh is also accused of consuming methamphetamine at the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division office at the Tumpat police headquarters at 1am on Oct 17.
