Chery has launched a recall programme for Omoda 5 vehicles in Malaysia following an incident in which the rear suspension assembly detached along with both rear wheels.
In an official statement issued on 11 October 2026, Chery Auto Malaysia said it would inspect the C and H variants of the affected Omoda 5 vehicles and replace the relevant components where necessary.
The company also said it was working closely with Malaysia’s Road Transport Department (JPJ) regarding the incident, which was reported on 6 October.
Under the recall programme, the affected vehicles will undergo comprehensive inspections. All necessary repairs, component replacements and follow-up work will be carried out free of charge, the company said.
Vehicle owners can check whether their vehicles are covered by the programme through the company’s website using their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). The statement also advised owners to contact a Chery service centre for further information.
Reports have also emerged that new registrations of Omoda 5 vehicles in Malaysia have been suspended following the incident.
However, Chery’s statement issued on 11 October focused primarily on the recall programme.
The incident has also drawn the attention of vehicle owners in Sri Lanka, as Omoda 5 vehicles are marketed locally by Hayleys.
However, Hayleys has yet to issue any communication informing Sri Lankan customers about the incident.
