SEREMBAN: Police found a knife on a mattress in the master bedroom of a government agency officer's home, where she was allegedly murdered by her husband yesterday.
Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the weapon was found after the suspect himself pointed it out during an inspection at the scene.
"The knife is suspected to be linked to the incident and has been seized for further action and forensic examination," he said when contacted today.
In the incident about 7pm on Thursday, a man reportedly surrendered at the Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi police station in Sepang, claiming that he had killed his wife.
Alzafny said the cause of death of the 35-year-old victim had yet to be determined, as a post-mortem was scheduled for tomorrow.
However, he said an examination at the scene found stab wounds to the left side of the victim's abdomen and her right cheek.
He said preliminary investigations indicated that the incident was believed to have stemmed from marital discord.
"Based on initial questioning, an argument broke out after the victim expressed her intention to divorce the suspect and informed him that divorce proceedings had been initiated while he was serving a prison sentence.
"However, the exact date the divorce was filed is still being verified through the relevant official documents," he said.
Alzafny said the couple had been married for seven years and had two children, aged 6 and 5.
