Data sovereignty is required when the identity of citizens are gathered and stored to enable them to have national identity cards. This is why the Gambia Immigration department should be well equipped to have full control of the data before issuing national documents. Unfortunately, in the recent past much effort has not been made to raise departmental self revenue to purchase the facilities to enable the immigration department to be fully financed and staffed to be able to gather data, issue national identity after the end of the Semslex. what efforts have been made to ensure data sovereignty
