Participants in the housing protest camp in Lisbon have approved a call for an Iberian general strike on November 11, as acknowledged in Porto, and agreed to coordinate actions with the northern movement.
A people’s assembly yesterday in Dom Pedro IV Square, in Rossio, approved nearly two dozen proposals after several dozen speeches.
Demonstrators – who had previously approved a proposal calling on the trade unions to organise a general strike ‘in defence of housing’ and ‘against the cost of living’ – have thus joined those taking part in the Porto camp, who had already acknowledged that an Iberian general strike for November 11 was under consideration, and would ‘bring the Iberian Peninsula to a complete standstill’.
Another proposal, approved unanimously at the People’s Assembly last night, called for ‘maintaining the camp’ in Rossio and holding people’s assemblies every day at 7.00 pm, until demands, primarily relating to measures in defence of housing, are met.
