The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, on Monday, consulted the emirs of Gwandu, Katsina, Daura and Zaria as part of efforts to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Yari, in a statement issued by the APC-PCC in Abuja on Monday, said the visits were intended to seek the traditional rulers’ prayers, blessings and advice, rather than solicit their political endorsements.
The APC campaign council also reaffirmed its respect for traditional institutions and their role in promoting peace, unity and stability, assuring that all stakeholders would be carried along in the build-up to the 2027 elections.
The statement read in part, “Speaking during the visits, the Director-General emphasised that the Council’s engagement with traditional institutions is a cornerstone of its consultative strategy, noting that the delegation came not to solicit political endorsement but to seek the prayers, blessings and wise counsel of the royal fathers, whose moral and spiritual guidance remains indispensable to the nation’s political process.
“The royal visits form part of a broader consultative tour to traditional and political leaders across the country, as the Council builds consensus and galvanises support ahead of key campaign activities leading up to January 16, 2027, a significant date in the electoral calendar.
“The Council reaffirms its profound respect for Nigeria’s traditional institutions and their pivotal role in fostering peace, unity and stability, and remains committed to carrying all stakeholders along in the build-up to the 2027 general elections.”
Yari was accompanied by several APC chieftains, including former governors Senator Ali Modu Sheriff (Borno); Dr Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano); Senator Adamu Aliero (Kebbi); Senator Sani Yarima (Zamfara); and Senator Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto); among others.
The visits followed similar engagements with the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, on Sunday.
With the APC’s 2027 presidential campaign set to officially kick off in Kaduna State on October 24, Yari has intensified consultations with key stakeholders.
Accompanied by other party leaders, he has visited religious and traditional leaders across the country to seek their backing for Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
