The Miami Dolphins haven't performed well in their first five games of the 2026 season. In fact, they've gone winless and have one of the worst offenses in the league.
Miami's passing attack has been a major problem for the team, as quarterback Malik Willis has completed just 56.2% of his passes for 849 yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions. That performance is good for a 68.4 passer rating, which is the lowest of any quarterback with at least four starts this year.
While it's obvious just by looking at the numbers that Willis' performance so far this year is horrendous, putting it in historical context, it's even worse.
Extrapolating his two touchdowns in five games over a 17-game season puts Willis on a pace for 6.8 passing touchdowns in 2026. Only one quarterback in NFL history has started at least 16 games and has fewer than nine touchdowns. That quarterback was Trent Dilfer, who finished the 1995 season with a 54% completion percentage, 2,774 passing yards, four touchdowns, 18 interceptions and a 60.1 passer rating. The Buccaneers somehow finished with a 7-9 record that year.
Miami would have to go on an incredible run to win seven games this year, and it feels much more likely that they won't earn a single victory in 2026.
After this bye week, the Dolphins will need to see more out of Willis for the remainder of the year if he wants to be their starting quarterback in 2027. However, it's a tough task to ask him to win games with the weapons he has around him.
