Bangladesh is pushing for direct flights between Nepal and Cox's Bazar as the country prepares to inaugurate Cox's Bazar international airport next month, while Nepal has proposed Biman Bangladesh Airlines flights on the Dhaka-Pokhara route.
The proposals were discussed at a meeting between Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat and Nepalese Ambassador to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari at the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka today (14 October), according to a press release.
The minister said the inauguration of the airport would open up new opportunities for Nepalese tourists to visit Cox's Bazar, the country's popular beach destination, through direct flights.
He expressed hope that Nepal's flag carrier, Himalaya Airlines, would launch direct flights to Cox's Bazar, helping attract more tourists and strengthen tourism ties between the two countries.
In response, Nepal expressed interest in operating Biman Bangladesh Airlines flights on the Dhaka-Pokhara route, which could improve connectivity and make travel between the two countries more convenient for tourists.
The meeting also focused on strengthening bilateral relations, increasing tourist exchanges, improving air connectivity and exploring joint initiatives to promote tourism.
Both sides expressed optimism about expanding cooperation and exploring new opportunities to develop the tourism sectors of Bangladesh and Nepal.
