Indi MP Helen Haines is in a critical condition in a Melbourne hospital after being "attacked" near her electorate office in Wangaratta, north-east Victoria.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is leading cross-party condemnation of the incident, as he reveals counter-terrorism police are investigating.
Victoria Police said a 43-year-old Tarrawingee man has been arrested following the incident.

PM said "this wasn't an accident"
The Prime Minister was asked last night on the ABC's 7:30 program whether Ms Haines was targeted due to her role as a politician and this is what he said:
"This wasn't an accident. This was a deliberate act," he said.
Anthony Albanese also said the joint counterterrorism unit had been activated but it was too early to say what was behind the Monday afternoon incident.
"It is too early in this investigation for me to provide you with details of what the motivation is behind this attack," he said.
