After benching Jameis Winston in Sunday's 34-27 loss to the New Orleans Saints Sunday afternoon and watching J.J. McCarthynearly lead the team to a comeback win in his Giants debut, New York was left with an important question: Is it time to switch things up at quarterback once again, at least for Week 7?
Head coach John Harbaugh said Monday afternoon that the team isn't sure of its next move just yet.
"We're working through that now," he said. "Honing in on a decision"
In his 11-plus minutes on the field, McCarthy spearheaded a 17-point rally which, though it fell just short, proved his ability to pull his team back into contention.
The Big Blue have been battling a void at the QB position since Week 1, when starter Jaxson Dartsuffered a season-ending knee injury. Though they remain atop the NFC East, the team is just 3-2-1.
In his five games so far this season, Winston has completed 90 of his 158 passes for 957 yards and seven touchdowns against five interceptions and 15 sacks. Two of those interceptions and four of those sacks came on Sunday.
When asked what goes into making a decision like that, Harbaugh said it's a matter of considering the several factors that impact a game.
"Like every other personnel decision we make, what gives us the best chance to win the football game at this given time, or what combination of players and schemes and things like that give us the best chance to move the ball, score points, protect the football, etc., so all the things that help us win," he said. "Whatever it is that furthers us and helps us, just to use the basic obvious point. That's what we want to do."
