The Grootfontein municipality’s newly appointed chief executive, Johannes Iipinge, says he wants to improve the town’s financial stability, attract investment and ensure better services for residents
This is according to a statement issued by the council on Monday.
Iipinge, who officially assumed office on Monday, has outlined a five-pillar vision aimed at improving municipal governance, infrastructure development and economic growth.
His plan, according to the statement, includes diversifying revenue through public-private partnerships, commercial property development, investment promotion, land servicing, tourism and renewable energy projects.
“His vision is to build a financially sustainable, economically vibrant, well-governed and service-orientated municipality that delivers measurable value to its residents, businesses and investors,” the statement reads.
This will be achieved through five strategic pillars, it says.
It says the council has identified water security, sewerage and sanitation, roads, stormwater drainage, electrification and waste management as infrastructure priorities requiring attention.
“Grootfontein should position itself as a leading centre for business, investment, agriculture, tourism and innovation, while creating opportunities for small and medium enterprises, young people and women entrepreneurs,” it reads.
According to Iipinge, improving internal controls, financial reporting, budgeting and debt collection would be central to strengthening the municipality’s finances and ensuring compliance with governance frameworks.
He committed to improving customer service, strengthening stakeholder engagement and promoting accountability among municipal employees.
Iipinge calls for cooperation between the municipal council, management, employees, residents, businesses, traditional leaders, community organisations and development partners, saying the success of his vision would depend on collective effort.
“As I assume this office today, I do so with confidence, determination and optimism. I commit myself to serving with integrity, transparency, accountability and dedication,” he says.
Iipinge holds a master of business administration specialising in financial management, is a certified chief financial officer through the Chartered Institute for Business Accountants and is pursuing a doctorate in business administration.
He brings more than 25 years of experience in the public and private sectors, including 19 years at a strategic executive management level.
