LG Electronics (066570) is moving into the global traffic safety solutions market with next-generation mobility technology that links vehicles with road infrastructure to prevent accidents.
The company said on the 20th that it is showcasing an integrated traffic safety solution combining vehicle-to-everything (V2X) and vehicle-to-network (V2N) communications at the 2026 ITS World Congress, held in Gangneung, Gangwon State, from the 19th through the 23rd.
The ITS World Congress is the world's largest event for sharing technology and policy in intelligent transport systems, bringing together government officials, companies and academic experts from around the world. It is held annually, rotating among Europe, the Americas and Asia.
At the event, LG Electronics is presenting the combined V2X and V2N solution through a demonstration on an actual road.
V2X allows a vehicle to exchange information directly with nearby objects such as other vehicles and road infrastructure. Information can be transmitted quickly through dedicated communication equipment installed in vehicles and road infrastructure, without passing through a separate network. V2N connects vehicles to networks and cloud servers using mobile communication networks. Drawing on mobile networks, it can deliver information over a wider area, including disabled vehicles, construction zones, weather conditions and traffic signals.
Participants at the event can experience the features through a driving demonstration on a roughly 2.6-kilometer stretch of public road.
The solution unveiled this week meets the top-tier standards of Euro NCAP, Europe's new car safety assessment program. LG Electronics plans to use the technology to help global automakers comply with safety regulations and make the transition to software-defined vehicles (SDVs).
"We will continue to advance V2X technology that organically connects vehicles, road infrastructure and networks to build a safer future mobility ecosystem," said Lee Sang-yong, executive vice president and head of LG Electronics' VS Lab.
