PETALING JAYA: The Malay rulers urged parties involved in the Negeri Sembilan royal dispute to exercise wisdom and patience, resolve their differences through lawful channels and warned outsiders against interfering in or politicising the crisis.
They said the dispute should be resolved “courteously and according to custom”, in accordance with the Negeri Sembilan constitution.
“Make good use of the opportunity to work towards a dignified outcome without demeaning or insulting any party.
“The throne carries a responsibility to the state and its people,” they said in a statement issued by the Keeper of the Rulers' Seal following the 273rd Meeting of the Conference of Rulers.
The rulers also urged outside parties not to interfere in or politicise the crisis, saying efforts to resolve it should be left to the relevant parties and authorities.
“The issue must under no circumstances be used as a political tool, a means of garnering support, an opportunity to expand influence or a platform for pursuing power struggles,” they added.
Negeri Sembilan has been embroiled in a royal crisis since April, when four purported undangs, or chieftains, announced the removal of Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as the state’s ruler.
The same disputed undangs also purportedly proclaimed Tunku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja'afar as the “new” Yang Dipertuan Besar at a five-star hotel in Melaka in June.
