The Gombe State Government has inaugurated a committee to oversee the distribution of assets and liabilities between the state’s 11 existing Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 13 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
The committee is expected to establish credible records of public assets and liabilities to promote transparency, accountability and effective management of resources across the state’s grassroots administrative structures.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Sani Ahmed Haruna, announced the initiative while addressing the committee members during their engagement with the ministry.
Haruna commended Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for establishing the committee, describing the exercise as a significant step towards strengthening accountability and ensuring proper management of public resources.
He urged the lead consultant, Dr. Bala Auta, and his team to discharge their responsibilities with professionalism, diligence and commitment, noting that the governor had entrusted them with the assignment based on confidence in their competence.
The commissioner disclosed that the committee had been strategically deployed across the state’s three senatorial zones to ensure balanced coordination and smooth execution of the exercise.
He expressed confidence that the assignment would produce accurate records of assets and liabilities belonging to the respective LGAs and LCDAs, thereby strengthening administrative efficiency and accountability.
In his remarks, the lead consultant, Dr. Auta, assured the state government and residents that the committee would carry out the assignment diligently and professionally in the overall interest of Gombe State.
He said the team was committed to producing credible and reliable records that would serve the interests of both the existing local governments and the newly created development areas.
Auta also appreciated the ministry for providing a conducive working environment and the necessary support for the successful implementation of the assignment.
Earlier, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Musa Idi Batari, commended the consultant and his team for accepting the responsibility.
He urged the committee to build on existing records and engagements in carrying out the assignment, while praying for its successful completion.
The exercise is expected to provide a clearer record of public assets and liabilities across the 24 administrative areas, supporting accountability and a more orderly management of resources at the grassroots level.
