EXCLUSIVE: One of the hottest shows at this year’s MIPCOM has revealed a big sale on day one of the market.
Italy‘s Rai has bought the Fox and Fremantle reboot starring Stephen Amell, Brooks Nader and Noah Beck after its first window deal with Prime Video Italy runs down. Distributor Fremantle is laying down a MIPCOM marker with the sale ahead of a glitzy premiere tonight. Prime Video already has rights across Italy, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Benelux, Switzerland, Austria, Turkey, Canada, Latin America and India, while Sky has bought for the UK and Ireland, and Stan has Baywatch in Australia.
Coming decades after the original series aired, the rebooted Baywatch comprises 12 episodes, featuring the iconic red swimsuits and an all-new cast of lifeguards patrolling the world’s most famous stretch of sand, delivering high-stakes rescues, explosive drama, and plenty of beachside heat.
The series stars Amell in the lead role of Hobie Buchannon, alongside Jessica Belkin as Charlie Vale, Shay Mitchell as Trina, Hassie Harrison as Nat, Thaddeus LaGrone as Brad, Beck as Luke, and Nader as Selene. In recurring roles, David Chokachi reprises his original role as Cody Madison, while Livvy Dunne portrays Grace. Erika Eleniak, Michael Bergin, and Kelly Packard will also guest star in their roles as Shauni McClain, Jack J.D. Darius, and April Giminski, respectively.
Al De Azpiazu, SVP Distribution, French & German Speaking Europe, Italy, Spain & Portugal, International, Fremantle, said: “Securing a major second-window deal with Rai 2 for Baywatch, even before the series has launched, is a real testament to the strength of the brand and the huge appetite we’re seeing for it internationally. Baywatch is a true MIPCOM showstopper. It’s an iconic brand reimagined for a new generation, with all the scale, energy and entertainment value buyers are looking for. We’re incredibly excited by the response so far and the momentum building around the series.”
The new series, co-produced by Fremantle and Fox Entertainment, will debut on Fox in January 2027, with Matt Nix (Burn Notice, The Gifted) serving as showrunner and EP alongside executive producers McG, MichaelBerk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto and Mike Horowitz. McG (Charlie’s Angels) directs the series premiere episode. Fox Entertainment Global holds domestic distribution rights, and Fremantle manages all international sales.
