Chainlink’s data infrastructure is now live on the Stellar blockchain, opening the door to new decentralized finance (DeFi) applications across a network that already supports more than $4 billion in tokenized real-world assets (RWAs).
Key Takeaways
- Chainlink is now live on Stellar, providing market data infrastructure for DeFi applications.
- The integration supports lending, trading, and tokenized assets across Stellar’s $4 billion RWA ecosystem.
- Stellar aims to expand its DeFi capabilities, attracting developers, institutions, and liquidity.
Chainlink Arrives on Stellar
The Stellar Development Foundation announced that Chainlink’s Data Feeds and Data Streams are available to developers, providing market data to help fuel lending platforms, prediction markets, perpetual futures exchanges, and other blockchain-based financial services.
The integration represents a push to expand Stellar’s role beyond issuing and transferring tokenized assets, enabling those assets to be traded, used as collateral, and incorporated into more sophisticated financial products.
Chainlink’s oracle technology supplies external market information to blockchain apps, allowing smart contracts to access pricing data necessary for activities such as determining collateral values, calculating loan-to-value ratios, and triggering automated liquidations.
According to the foundation, Stellar ecosystem applications are already adopting the infrastructure to support lending operations and stablecoin pricing.
The launch follows Stellar’s earlier decision to join the Chainlink Scale program, under which the network committed funding to make Chainlink’s infrastructure more affordable for developers. The broader partnership also includes plans to integrate Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP), although that component was not included in the latest launch announcement.
“The Stellar network’s adoption of Chainlink as its data infrastructure unlocks a new generation of DeFi and tokenized asset applications across its ecosystem,” said Chainlink Labs Chief Business Officer Johann Eid, in a statement.
Raja Chakravorti, chief business officer at the Stellar Development Foundation, emphasized that issuing tokenized assets represents only the first stage of developing blockchain-based financial markets.
“Tokenization is only the beginning,” Chakravorti said, adding that institutional-scale markets require dependable systems for pricing, execution, and asset movement.
The integration comes as blockchain networks compete to attract financial institutions and developers seeking to bring traditional financial assets onchain. Stellar has established a presence in tokenized assets and payments, but expanding their usefulness within DeFi could help attract additional liquidity and applications.
For Stellar, the latest development is an effort to transform its growing inventory of tokenized assets into a more active financial ecosystem, where capital can be borrowed against, traded, and deployed across decentralized markets.
