Daisy Edgar-Jones listened to Dolly Parton and Billie Holiday tunes to get into the right headspace for Sense and Sensibility.
The 28-year-old actress portrays Elinor Dashwood in Georgia Oakley's 2026 big screen adaptation of the 1811 Jane Austen novel, and Daisy loved to lock in while listening to the late, great Dolly - who passed away in August, aged 80 - belting out hit song Here You Come Again?.
Speaking about the tune, Daisy told Variety: "It just epitomises what it is to like love somebody - that heartbreak and slight female rage inside that you just want to let out.
"I really could imagine, if Elinor lived in a time with Dolly Parton, she’d be belting that around her bedroom in Barton [Cottage]."
Daisy also listened to Billie and Minnie Riperton tunes to get into the right frame of mind to play Elinor, as well as songs by more recent artists, including Alice Phoebe Lou, Julia Jacklin and Jessica Pratt.
However, the star knew all about her character because she had read Austen's books as a teenager, thanks to a gift from her mother.
She added: "My mum gave me all the books when I was at a very formative age
"It’s a rite of passage to read them all when you’re a teenager, and you’re finding yourself and falling in love for the first time and experience that personal growth.
"So, yeah, I read them in one fell swoop."
Edgar-Jones was "so excited" to play Elinor in the movie, which also features Caitriona Balfe, Esme Creed-Miles, George MacKay, and Fiona Shaw.
She added: "I really enjoy playing characters that have a deep well inside that maybe other people overlook, and finding ways in which to express that.
"She’s somebody that has such a strength and this deep well of emotion that she’s learned to button up.
"And I love the journey she goes on where she becomes more comfortable with embracing that wilder side of herself. I was just so excited to sink my teeth into playing her."
Daisy previously insisted Austen's work is timeless.
She told E! News: "What Austen was writing about was the human experience.
"And therefore every new group of individuals that make her books and bring them to life, just the mere kind of individuality of the people making it, but also the context of which it's being made, will kind of imprint into something different."
