The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has paid a total of GH¢6.71 billion in benefits to beneficiaries as of September 2026.
The payments cover monthly pensions, invalidity pensions, survivors’ benefits, emigration benefits and other benefits payable under the Scheme.
This was disclosed by the General Manager in charge of Benefits at SSNIT, Mr. Frank Molbila, during the launch of the 2026 SSNIT Mobile Service (SMS) Week in Techiman, in the Bono East Region.
Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Deputy Director-General in charge of Finance and Administration, Dr. Bernardette Hoffman and Management, Mr. Molbila noted that SSNIT would ensure the prompt payment of benefits to members and beneficiaries.
Currently, SSNIT processes and pays pensions within seven working days, with the Trust committed to further reducing the processing period through the use of technology to improve efficiency.
Mr. Molbila further highlighted some of SSNIT’s initiatives aimed at improving member experience and service delivery. These include Co-location - partnership with selected banks, the Member Value Programme (MVP) - ensuring that members get discounts from shops, Telehealth service for pensioners and the Virtual Branch.
These initiatives are intended to improve access to services, expand member support and make pension-related services more convenient.
2026 SMS Week
The SSNIT Mobile Service Week is an annual initiative aimed at bringing the Trust’s services closer to members and the public. This year’s event commenced on Monday, October 19 and it's expected to end on Friday, October 23rd, 2026.
As part of the initiative, the Trust has established 68 temporary service touch points at various designated locations across the country to enhance access of SSNIT's services.
The services available at the touch points include registration of new members, benefits processing and status verification, renewal of pensioner certificates, merging of GhanaCard and SSNIT numbers and general enquiries.
A major focus of this year’s activity is to encourage self-employed persons, including traders, artisans, drivers, farmers and other informal sector workers, to enrol on the Scheme, contribute regularly and secure retirement income.
The initiative also seeks to encourage workers to adopt and actively use SSNIT’s digital platforms, including the SSNIT Mobile App, SSNIT portal and Virtual Branch to access services and transact business with the Trust more conveniently.
The SMS launch also featured testimonies from three beneficiaries of the SSNIT Scheme, comprising two invalidity pensioners and one survivor beneficiary, who shared their experiences and highlighted the positive impact of the Scheme on their lives.
The Paramount Chief of Techiman Traditional Area, Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV, who was represented by the Chief of Kenten and Debehene of the Techiman Traditional Area, Oheneba Nana Owusu Antwi Boasiako II, officially launched the 2026 SMS Week. He was the Special Guest of Honour.
He commended SSNIT Management for bringing the initiative to Techiman, noting that it would expand access of SSNIT’s services, enable more workers in the area to enrol and benefit from the Scheme.
Delivering the Guest Speaker’s address, the Bono East Regional Minister, Mr. Francis Owusu Antwi, also commended SSNIT for leveraging digital platforms to improve service delivery.
He urged SSNIT to continue engaging members and the public to promote social security awareness and encourage more workers, particularly the self-employed and those in the informal sector, to enrol on the Scheme.
