Overview
Porsche is aiming to become a fixture in the world of exotic sports cars with a production supercar based on the Mission S concept. We don't yet have too many details about this mid-engined stunner, but we expect a high-performance powertrain and bonkers acceleration. Porsche says this platform can support a gas-only powertrain as well as hybrid and plug-in hybrid setups, so we expect a range of available propulsion options.
Inside the two-seat cabin of the Mission S concept car, Porsche has deprioritized touchscreens, and the car lacks a traditional infotainment system altogether. Instead, a MagSafe dock for a smartphone is provided, and Porsche intends drivers to use their own device for navigation and entertainment features. Un-digitizing the car interior is a novel idea, but we’re willing to bet the production version will have some version of Porsche’s current infotainment system instead.
Expert Tip: Porsche’s supercar is still a few years off, but there’s no need to wait to satisfy your need for speed. Lucky buyers in this class will find plenty to love in just about any other half-million-dollar exotic on the market today.
What's New for 2029?
The Mission S—or whatever its real name turns out to be—will be an all-new model for the Porsche lineup when it reaches production. We think we’ll see a production-car reveal sometime next year and see the supercar start rolling off the assembly line as a 2029 model-year vehicle.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
We think Porsche is targeting a $500,000 starting price for the Mission S. That pricing would align it with a range of competitors from the slightly less expensive Lamborghini Temerario to the slightly more expensive Ferrari 849 Testarossa. When we learn more about Porsche’s new range-topping supercar, we’ll update this story with details.
