Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday alleged that the Opposition’s ongoing movement is an attempt to bring about a regime change in India without popular support and is inspired by foreign powers who do not want the country to grow.
Speaking at a press conference in Guwahati, Sarma said, “This is an attempt to inflict a regime change in India without popular support. This entire movement is supported by foreign powers who don’t want India to grow. This movement is a result of frustrated people, ‘Dimagi Naxals’, and those who do not want India to grow.”
“They are frustrated because this government has smashed the Naxals. They are frustrated because Narendra Modi has brought peace to the Northeast. They are frustrated because, during Narendra Modi’s tenure, Indian defence forces have for the first time hit inside Pakistan. They do not want to see a strong India. So this entire attempt by a few frustrated politicians is inspired by foreign powers,” he added.
CM Targets Rahul, Congress
Targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Sarma said, “Today the Congress party has come out to blackmail all democratic institutions. You first threatened the Election Commission, and now you are threatening the Supreme Court. Rahul Gandhi is trying to destroy every democratic institution of our country.”
“He is teaching the new politicians that whenever you lose, say there has been ‘vote chori’,” he added.
Questioning the Congress’s objections to the election results, Sarma said, “Today Rahul Gandhi has objections regarding the Assam and Bengal election results. But I want to ask Rahul Gandhi that under the same CEC, Gyanesh Kumar, your government was formed in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. If Assam’s election is wrong, then how is Kerala’s election fair? If Bengal’s election is false, why is Tamil Nadu not the same?”
“You yourself became the leader of the opposition through the same Election Commission. The MPs who are doing drama there all became MPs through the same Election Commission. You are correct; we are wrong? When you win the election, the EVMs are alright, and when we win, the elections are faulty?” he questioned.
