Seoul's Guro District is running a gochujang-making program that gives multicultural families a hands-on introduction to traditional Korean food culture.
The classes will run from Nov. 16 to 25 at eight day care centers designated as multicultural facilities. Children aged 4 to 5 from multicultural families will take part alongside a parent or guardian, with 67 families expected to join.
Participants will learn about the types, characteristics and preparation methods of traditional Korean fermented pastes, along with dishes that use them, before making gochujang themselves. The Guro District Children's and Social Welfare Meal Service Management Support Center said it plans to survey participants afterward on how their views of traditional pastes have changed and how satisfied they were, and to reflect the findings in future programs.
