Whenever I post Dazy's music on this site, I feel compelled to mention that James Goodson, the Richmond musician who makes music under the Dazy name, is a guy who I know and like. He's a publicist for other bands, so we deal with him in that capacity, and he's also someone I love seeing out at shows every once in a while. But I promise, this is not me abusing my music-blogger privilege to hype up my man's music. If anything, it's almost embarrassing to know someone socially and to be like, "Fuck, I really like all this guy's songs."
I really do like all of his songs, though. As Dazy, Goodson cranks out bright and catchy fuzz-pop anthems with scary frequency and consistency. On his newer stuff, Goodson has been playing around with breakbeats and samples that add whole new dimensions to his endlessly catchy riffs and melodies.
Later this week, Dazy will release MAXIMUMBLASTSUPERLOUD Vol. 2: 24 Songs From 2023-2026, a new compilation with seven new tracks. We posted the early singles "Beat Change" and "Ugly," and those songs go hard. I honestly think "Beat Change" might be the best straight-up Dazy track yet. ("Pressure Cooker," the Militarie Gun collab from 2022, is just one of the best rock songs of the past few years, so that's out of competition.) Today, he shares "Unreasonable Person," another vast edifice constructed entirely out of classic alternative rock hooks. Check it out below.
MAXIMUMBLASTSUPERLOUD Vol. 2: 24 Songs From 2023-2026 is out 10/23 on Lame-O Records. Pre-order it here.
