Minister of State for Defence Bello Mohammed Matawalle has facilitated the return of eight Zamfara State House of Assembly members to the All Progressives Congress (APC) following efforts to resolve internal party disagreements.
The lawmakers had reportedly left the APC last month amid a political crisis but later reconsidered their decision after reconciliation talks involving Matawalle and other party stakeholders.
As part of the reconciliation process, Matawalle on Monday presented the lawmakers to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at a meeting aimed at strengthening the party’s position in Zamfara State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Northern Elders of the All Progressives Congress Forum, in a statement issued on Tuesday, commended Tinubu and Matawalle for their roles in facilitating the lawmakers’ return.
The forum’s chairman, Alhaji Yusuf Abubakar, described the development as an important step towards rebuilding party unity and strengthening the APC’s political structure in the state.
He said the reconciliation would help consolidate the party’s support base as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.
The forum also praised Tinubu for encouraging reconciliation among party members despite his demanding official schedule.
It commended Matawalle for his commitment to resolving the disputes that reportedly prompted the lawmakers to leave the party, noting his role in bringing them back into the APC.
The group further acknowledged Matawalle’s political mobilisation efforts through the Tinubu Again Movement (TAM), which supports Tinubu’s political ambition.
It described such peace initiatives as part of broader efforts to consolidate the APC’s position ahead of the next general elections.
