The Malawi National Beach Soccer Team is on the verge of qualifying for 2026 Caf Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals for a third consecutive edition following a 6-2 victory over Seychelles at the Beach Soccer Arena on Saturday.
Going into the second leg at Livingstonia Beach Hotel in Salima District this coming Saturday, the team has a huge advantage.
It is for Malawi to lose as they can qualify on away goal-rule if they lose with a lesser margin.
For Seychelles, they need to beat Malawi at home by 4-0 to qualify for their first-ever Afcon finals.
Malawi Beach Soccer Coach Willy Kumilambe said despite the huge win, the tie was still open.
“We made few errors and conceded avoidable goals. We will rectify the mistakes. We could have scored more goals but the boys were taking things for granted,” Kumilambe said.
Sandram Saddi, Dala Simba, Justin Bonongwe and Frank Mwenelupembe scored a goal each whereas
Isaac Kajamu netted a brace to secure a vital away win for the Hustlers.
The overall winner between Malawi and Seychelles will automatically qualify for the Beach Soccer Afcon finals, which are scheduled for Senegal later this year.
Malawi qualified for the two previous editions held in Mozambique and Egypt in 2022 and 2024, respectively.
