The Atlanta Dream needed a response after losing the opening game of the WNBA Finals, and Angel Reese delivered one of the finest performances of her career to help restore their championship hopes.
Reese scored 30 points and collected 16 rebounds as Atlanta defeated the Golden State Valkyries 79-65 on Monday night, leveling the best-of-seven series at one game apiece.
Angel Reese goes from WNBA Finals praise to a frustrating finish
The performance made Reese the first player in Dream history to register at least 25 points and 10 rebounds in a WNBA Finals game, underlining her growing influence on the championship stage.
However, the celebration was accompanied by an uncomfortable moment when Reese appeared to lose patience with her teammates during the third quarter, despite already being Atlanta's most productive player.
The incident occurred with just under eight minutes remaining in the third quarter as Atlanta worked through an offensive possession.
Reese positioned herself in the mid-range area and signaled repeatedly that she was available, raising her hand in an attempt to attract attention from the ball handler.
Rather than deliver the pass, her teammates continued moving the ball around the perimeter, leaving Reese visibly frustrated as the possession developed without her involvement.
The forward responded by placing her hands on her hips and stamping her foot before moving toward the area near Atlanta's bench.
Her reaction became particularly noticeable when Allisha Gray attempted a three-pointer that failed to find the basket, with Reese appearing disengaged from the play.
As players regrouped, teammate Te-Hina Paopao approached Reese for a high-five, but the forward appeared to ignore the gesture.
Reese responds with historic WNBA Finals performance
Despite that moment, Reese remained the driving force behind Atlanta's victory, delivering the offensive production the Dream had lacked during their narrow Game 1 defeat.
Her 30 points led all Atlanta players, while her 16 rebounds gave the team a significant presence around the basket.
Reese also recorded three assists and converted 10 of 16 attempts from mid-range, along with her only three-point opportunity.
Her contribution was particularly important as Atlanta attempted to contain a Golden State team that had entered Monday's matchup holding the early advantage in the series.
Gabby Williams and Tiffany Hayes led the Valkyries with 14 points each, but neither could match Reese's overall influence.
Meanwhile, Jordin Canada provided much of Atlanta's offensive organization, finishing with 10 assists.
Dream gain momentum before return home
The victory sends the championship series to Atlanta level at 1-1, giving the Dream an opportunity to take control in front of their home supporters.
Game 3 is scheduled for Wednesday, October 21, at State Farm Arena, with Atlanta also hosting the following matchup.
Reese's emotional third-quarter reaction will attract attention, but her overall performance demonstrated why she has become central to the Dream's championship ambitions.
The forward combined scoring efficiency with dominant rebounding, helping Atlanta respond to its opening defeat and restore momentum.
With the series finely balanced, Reese's ability to sustain that level of production could prove far more consequential than a brief moment of frustration.
