Colombo, October 24 (Daily Mirror)- The Meteorology Department has issued a red warning for strong winds and rough seas, urging naval and fishing communities to avoid venturing into deep-sea areas bounded by 10°N–20°N and 85°E–95°E until further notice.
According to the Department, the low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, near the North Andaman Islands, is very likely to develop into a depression today. The system is expected to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a deep depression by October 25, before developing into a cyclonic storm over the west-central Bay of Bengal by the morning of October 26, 2026.
The Department has advised naval and fishing communities currently operating in the affected sea areas to move to safer locations and remain alert to further updates.
