Two elderly residents of Lahore have died of rabies following dog-bite incidents, including a woman who passed away at Mayo Hospital and a man who died at home after receiving hospital treatment.
Nasreen Bibi, 60, was bitten by a stray dog approximately two months ago. She later developed symptoms of rabies and was admitted to Mayo Hospital’s isolation ward, where she died during treatment.
In a separate case, 90-year-old Ghaus Muhammad received treatment at Mayo Hospital for several days after a dog bite. Doctors confirmed that he had contracted rabies.
His family subsequently took him home, where he later died of the disease. Both deaths were reported on Monday.
The available details do not establish whether either patient received anti-rabies vaccination following the bites. They also do not specify when Ghaus Muhammad was bitten or why his family took him home after the diagnosis.
While Nasreen Bibi’s case was explicitly linked to a stray dog, the details provided did not identify whether the dog involved in Ghaus Muhammad’s case was also a stray.
