RUNDU – The Public Service Commission (PSC), led by Chairperson Ambassador Patrick Nandago, will review audit findings involving the Kavango East Regional Council and the Education and Health directorates to determine whether identified irregularities have been addressed.
Nandago made the announcement yesterday during the commission’s two-day visit to Rundu to engage public officials, assess compliance with human resource standards and address challenges affecting service delivery.
During a meeting with regional council officials, Nandago raised concerns over allegations of corruption in public service recruitment, including reports that government positions were allegedly being sold to job seekers.
He stressed that recruitment should be based on merit and qualifications, rather than applicants paying money to secure employment.
“Such allegations are serious and require attention. There is a need for transparent and accountable recruitment processes in order to protect the integrity of the public service,” he said.
Nandago also questioned whether the growing number of managers and supervisors in the public service had improved performance and efficiency.
He said the increase in management structures had not resulted in the expected improvements in service delivery, calling on managers to take greater responsibility for ensuring employees perform their duties effectively.
The commission further expressed concern over reports of public servants attending to personal matters during working hours while members of the public wait for assistance.
Nandago urged employees to handle personal activities outside working hours and called on managers to address conduct that affects service delivery.
The commission is expected to meet officials from the Kavango East Education and Health directorates today to discuss issues affecting their operations and review the implementation of human resource standards.
The engagements are aimed at identifying challenges within the public service and determining measures to improve accountability, employee performance and service delivery.
