MOMBASA · Culture
Four dated events are confirmed for Mombasa and its coast from 12 to 31 October: Mashujaa Day, a coast golf open, Pwani Innovation Week and a tourism summit.
MOMBASA, Kenya. The coast’s big arts festival, Wimbi La Sanaa, ended on Saturday 10 October. What follows is quieter and more business-minded: a national holiday on Tuesday 20 October, then a golf day, a youth innovation week and a tourism summit in the last week of the month.
We list only events that an organiser, venue or official source confirms. That left four. Several concerts and parties appear on ticket sites, but we could not confirm them with the venue or organiser, so we left them out. For readers in the United States, Mombasa is Kenya’s main port city, and the coast is where many visitors and remote workers base themselves.

Tuesday 20 October: Mashujaa Day
Tuesday 20 October
Mashujaa Day
National public holiday · Kenya
Mashujaa Day honours national heroes. The state celebration is in Eldoret, in the Rift Valley, not on the coast. Government statements reported by Citizen Digital put the main event at Kipchoge Keino Stadium on 20 October, with related events from 13 to 18 October under the theme “Security, Sports and the Finance Sector (The Economy)”. In Mombasa, expect public offices to close and some shops and tour operators to change their hours. Confirm with restaurants, tour operators and ferry services in advance.
Saturday 24 October: golf north of Mombasa
Saturday 24 October
Uganda-Kenya Coast Open
Vipingo Ridge PGA Baobab Course, Kilifi County · Organisers: Kilifi County, coast counties and the Ugandan consulate in Mombasa · Entry prices: ask the venue
This is the fourth event in the Uganda-Kenya Coast Open series. Players join either the Kenya Coast team or Team Uganda in an 18-hole Stableford competition. Entry is through an online form, and stay-and-play packages with accommodation are priced by the venue. Vipingo Ridge is in Kilifi County, north of Mombasa island, so allow travel time. Contact details are on the Vipingo Ridge event page.
Late October: innovation and tourism
From Monday 26 October
Pwani Innovation Week 2026
Mombasa · Organiser: Swahilipot Hub · Registration: through the organiser
This is the seventh edition and coincides with ten years of Swahilipot Hub, a youth-led creative and technology hub on the coast. Citizen Digital reports the dates as 26 to 30 October (Monday to Friday); check the final programme for the closing day. If you work in technology, the creative industries or social enterprise, it is the main technology and creative-industries gathering on the Mombasa calendar this month. We could not find a published venue or ticket price.
Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 October
Uganda-Kenya Coast Tourism & Innovation Summit
Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort & Spa, Mombasa · Registration: ask the organisers
The fifth edition has the theme “Unlocking Tourism Opportunities: Resolving Policy Bottlenecks through Technology, Youth and Seamless Mobility across East Africa”. The Ugandan consulate in Mombasa organises it with tourism stakeholders from both countries. Its focus areas include youth-led innovation, digital visitor services, tourism investment and the movement of people and services across East Africa. It is a trade event, not a public festival, so treat it as a networking date for anyone in hospitality, travel or cross-border business.
Further ahead
If you plan to stay on the coast into December, our guide to the Beneath the Baobabs festival in Kilifi covers a date north of Mombasa. For cultural context, read Kenya culture and the key figures to know.
What it means for you
If you are in Mombasa this month, plan around Tuesday 20 October: a holiday week can thin out services even though the national celebration is far inland. Business visitors should look at the last week of October, when the golf day, the summit and Pwani Innovation Week fall within three days of each other.
If you travel from the United States, note that most coast events are small and locally run. Ask for prices in writing before you book, because organisers have published few. For the economic backdrop, see how the Central Bank of Kenya held its rate at 8.75% and who holds power in Kenya in 2026.
What is not known
We could not confirm the venue or ticket prices for Pwani Innovation Week, the entry fees for the golf day, or whether Mombasa itself plans any local Mashujaa Day event. We will add more dates once an organiser or venue confirms them.
Getting around is easiest by taxi or ride-hailing app after dark. If you cross between the island and the mainland, leave early, because queues at crossings can add time on event days.
