SEOUL, Oct. 21 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Mobis Co., a Hyundai Motor affiliate, said Wednesday it will strengthen partnerships with local companies to build a domestic automotive semiconductor ecosystem linking chip development with vehicle applications.
The company outlined its plan to establish a comprehensive semiconductor supply chain covering chip design and software development through manufacturing, testing and mass production at the second Auto Semicon Korea (ASK) forum held in Bundang, south of Seoul.

To this end, Hyundai Mobis, Hyundai Motor and LG Electronics launched an automotive semiconductor task force to strengthen South Korea's domestic supply chain, reduce dependence on imported chips and accelerate the commercialization of domestically developed technologies.
"Hyundai Mobis, as a major customer of automotive semiconductors, will actively share the expertise it has accumulated over the years," CEO Lee Gyu-suk said.
"We will build a comprehensive cooperation framework that brings together the strengths of individual companies and supports the entire process from development and testing to mass production, so that no single company has to shoulder the high barriers of entry in the automotive semiconductor industry alone."
The initiative reflects Hyundai Mobis' strategy to move beyond developing individual chips and build a demand-driven ecosystem linking semiconductor manufacturers and automakers across the development and production stages.
Under the strategy, Hyundai Mobis will strengthen cooperation with domestic chip designers, foundries and testing institutions to develop semiconductors tailored to the needs of electric vehicles, software-defined vehicles (SDVs) and autonomous driving systems.
Hyundai Mobis currently mass-produces 16 types of in-house-developed system semiconductors, including chips used for power management, motor control, communications, sensing and data processing, with annual production reaching approximately 20 million units through external foundries.
