A South African woman driving through a checkpoint could not contain herself after spotting a security guard she believed looked just like President Cyril Ramaphosa. The clip was shared on TikTok by @newsnexussa on 19 October 2026 and rapidly caught fire online.
The video, filmed through an open car window on a smartphone, shows the woman dissolving into hysterical laughter as she approaches a checkpoint where a guard steps forward to scan her driver's licence. She finds the resemblance to the President so striking that she can barely compose herself. A second security guard even steps outside to see what all the fuss is about. When she points at his colleague, the man in question gives a quiet smile before retreating back into the checkpoint building.
The clip then cuts to footage of the President himself, apparently added to drive the comparison home.
On-screen text overlay reads "RAPHOSA DUPLICATE" at the top and "Ramaphosa after deductions. 19 Oct 2026" at the bottom, framing the whole thing as a cheeky meme aimed squarely at South African audiences who know all too well how much a salary can shrink after debit orders hit.

While many found the "after deductions" joke irresistible, a significant portion of viewers felt the man at the checkpoint deserved more respect. The comments section on the TikTok page became a battleground between laughter and conscience.
@Freedom wrote:
"Very rude. He's a human trying to make a living. Was there any reason to post this video?"
@Prime responded:
"Ramaphosa after deduction? 😂😂😂"
@Njoks✌️🇰🇷🇿🇦 said:
"This is not funny, guys. It's embarrassing and rude."
@Simoné added:
"Since when has embarrassing another person become cool? Shame humanity has become non-existent."
@sowhatintheuniverse noted:
"It's funny until they make fun of your family members or you."
@Zana offered a different take:
"He's better-looking version of Cyril, though."
@Mavanda observed:
"It looks like he doesn't like it. It would have been funny though. But it looks like he doesn't enjoy the joke."
The back-and-forth in the comments captured something very South African: the tension between a sharp sense of humour and the question of where the line sits when a stranger becomes the punchline.
